When to visit

Firstly a word about the weather. Yes it does rain in Wales. Often. This is what makes our landscape so beautiful and verdant, and fills the rivers and waterfalls with sparkling, clear, fresh water straight from the mountains. We live here year round, unharmed by the weather and able to enjoy the beauty around us even on the greyest of days.

Wales is a great destination year-round. Read below for the highlights of each season.

Winter If it's wilderness you're looking for, Winter is the perfect time to visit. Visit a castle ruin shrouded in mist at dawn; take a refreshing walk on a deserted beach with the waves crashing and the wind in your face; see the waterfalls in full flow as they come careering down from the snow covered mountains; or perhaps cosy up in front of a roaring log fire while tucking into some local delicacies at a traditional pub.

Spring There's something magical about Spring in Wales. It's when the weather is usually better, the days are longer, and everywhere is bursting with the signs of new life. Take a walk through woodland carpeted with scented flowers; visit a farm and see the spring lambs playing in the fields; take advantage of the lower costs during the shoulder season. If we had to choose the best time to visit Wales, Spring would probably be it.

Summer Wales comes to life in the Summer. Although you'll never feel crowded, the holiday vibe has well and truly set in and facilities are in full swing. Make full use of our stunning beaches, enjoy the warmer weather, go fruit picking, pack less clothing, and indulge in the festival season. It's good to book ahead during this peak season.

Autumn In some ways Autumn is the most beautiful time to visit Wales. A riot of colours awaits on the hillside and in the woods. Wildlife is abundant and the weather is often still warm. This is a great time of year to try out watersports and enjoy the fruits of the harvest at one of the many great food festivals.
